Mini Trip Recap!
I just got back today from my mini-vacation. I only call it a vacation because I left Blacksburg. yippee! I headed up Wednesday morning to Richmond to meet up with my Dad for lunch. He took me to Glory Days which was SO delicious! I love that you can tune the box at your table to whichever TV you want to hear audio from. So cool when there are multiple games on.
The plan was that we would go to Petersburg to watch Steven play, but unfortunately as soon as I got onto Midlothian Turnpike, he texted to say that because of all the rain the previous night & poor field drainage, the game was cancelled and they weren't coming up! BUMMER. I was so upset because Steven has never visited Richmond with me before -- plus he was going to keep me company on my ride the following day.
Anyway, it's all good because then me, my Dad and my stepmom Debbie went to eat at our "usual", Joe's Inn. So delicious...
After stopping in a quick shopping center the next day that had a lot of my weaknesses within walking distance - Target, Kohl's, T.J. Maxx, Old Navy, etc - I was on my way to Martinsville. Since Steven was supposed to have stayed overnight and make the trip with me, I was a little bummed on my way out but happy nonetheless that he would be waiting for me when I got there. It was a long, somewhat boring drive down 360, but it took me a little under 3 hours. I love having no cars on the road!
I got to see two games in the two days I was there. On Thursday evening they played their first full game, start to finish with no rain delays! It was awesome. They won (beating Forest City) and I was so happy that Steven was the closer for the game...I hadn't seen him pitch in over a month! Maybe even two! Yesterday's game was expected to be cancelled because there was about an 85% chance of rain. We had planned to go to Roanoke, in the event that it was cancelled, to shop and see a movie. Around 6:45 I headed over for the game since I hadn't heard anything, but Steven called me to say they were heading to the storm shelter and I should go home. There was a tornado watch until 9:00 and a torrential downpour hit! Of course I freaked out and drove to his host house so fast...They delayed the start of the game until 8:00, nixing the Roanoke plans, but it was worth it because they played a great game! They were losing the entire game but came back in the bottom of the 9th scoring 3 runs to win 8-7 over Gastonia. It was awesome to see the guys swarm the plate. I got goosebumps...nerd alert. We even got a double rainbow out of all the mess, which you can't see in this picture because it was much fainter to the right, but I promise it was there.
Now I'm back home and relaxing the rest of the weekend! I plan on finishing my book, doing some grocery shopping and making a carrot cake - my favorite! Steven might also visit tomorrow since they have the day off :)
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!Don't forget - there is still time to sign up for the Koozie Swap :)
